We train candidates for ordination within Exeter, Truro and part of Bath and Wells dioceses (Initial Ministerial Education Phase 1).
We have contracts with Exeter Diocese to deliver: Initial Ministerial Education Phase 2 for Curates; Reader Training; Foundations in Christian Ministry year and Lay Education.
We work in close co-operation with diocesan staff and have a Staff Tutor and a Joint Principal based in Truro.
SWMTC courses are validated by the University of Durham, as part of the "Common Awards" scheme. This scheme brings participating organisations together in a common system of award validation offered through theological colleges, courses and dioceses in the Church of England and its partner churches. Since 2014, students who enter on and successfully complete validated courses offered through SWMTC will receive their award from Durham University. You can read more about Common Awards on the Durham University website.
We work with the University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth (Marjon) in the collaborative provision of a joint open-access theology course at HE Level 1. Marjon also provides us with teaching space for our Plymouth-based residential events.
The Course does not train candidates in a vacuum but within a network of local churches upon which we depend, and which keeps us very close to the realities and demands of ministry today and tomorrow.
