Licensed Ministry Officer and Tutor

£35,350 per annum pro rata

17.5 hours per week, based in Cornwall, working from home, with regular travel to Exeter and Plymouth, and to meetings with students.

The South West Ministry Training Course serves the Church in the South West by training lay and ordained ministers with formation that is Christ-centred, world-engaging and rooted in local communities. We are people of ‘adventurous faith, missional hope and grounded love’.

Lay ministry is a core component of the life and future of our churches in Cornwall. This key role will be vacant following the retirement soon of the present post holder. It supports the development and delivery of licensed ministry in the Diocese, with a particular focus on Licenced Lay Minsters  (Readers) and to fulfil the role of a course tutor for both LLMs in training and ordinands.

Training for LLMs/Readers is delivered by a partnership between the Diocese of Truro and South West Ministry Training Course (SWMTC) and takes people from initial explorations all the way through to a Certificate in Theology, Ministry and Mission, and then licensing.

With knowledge of the processes of ministerial formation, you will be passionate about encouraging and enabling licensed lay ministry, and be qualified to teach theological subjects to first degree level, with relevant experience.

It is open to both lay and ordained applicants, but you will need to be a communicant member of a recognised Christian denomination.

This role offers the opportunity for someone to make a real contribution to flourishing licensed lay ministry in a unique organisation that prides itself on being a supportive employer. At the Diocese of Truro, we value work-life balance and employee wellbeing and are committed to supporting your development. We offer additional benefits such as flexible working, a range of wellbeing activities and the Church of England Pension Scheme with 9-15% employer contributions. More information on this here.

If you are interested in this role, you can find more details and how to apply here. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Thursday 16 June with interviews being held on 27 June 2022.

We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, we would particularly welcome applications from those with a disability, or from a UK minority ethnic background, as these groups are currently under-represented in our staff.
